Calling All Children of the Sea, Bull Island Windsurfers in conjunction with Pure Magic and the IWA are delighted to present “Mayo Mayhem”. An IWA ranked wave competition to take place at Achill Island between September 29th and October 1st. This will be the same weekend as the "Battle for the Lake Kite and Music festival" www.battleforthelake.com

The event headquarters will be based at Keel, Achill Island with the option to compete on any one of Mayo's finest beaches from Bellumllet to Louisburg. We can choose which ever location can provide the best wave sailing conditions on the day. With such a variety of locations to choose from, there is a strong possibility of competing in both Port and Starboard condition over the weekend.

Mayo is known as Giants Land and is steeped in myths and legends. Lir is the Irish God of the sea. His children are still remembered in the story of "The Children of Lir", they were tuned into swans and banished for 300 year to Inishglora Island, which is just off the coast of Bellumllet in county Mayo.

Mayo is also home to Grace O’Malley the Pirate Queen. This autumn on the magical beaches of Mayo we are looking to have an EPIC battle for the title of the King or Queen of the Mayo Mayhem. These beaches can produce some epic wave sailing conditions, which we hope will deliver some“ Mayo Mayhem” .

The Battle for the lake is a fantastic show, a wonderland of water sports, music, entertainment, food and surprises, right in the middle of the WILD ATLANTIC WAY!

Last year’s event had an attendance of over 3000 people between all its gigs and attractions. The three day Music Festival consists of 3 stages with an Impressive line-up of bands, various DJ sessions and trad sessions.

Over the course of the weekend there will be lots of other actives, such as,  firework displays, product demo's, stand up paddle boarding (SUP) competition, kid's DISCO, West African drumming workshops, Kid's kite workshop, "Mega Kids Village", fun rides, giant games, bike tours, Curragh races, sheep shearing demonstrations and much more!!!

OF COURSE... there will be some, TASTY FOOD TOO!

To ensure that, this is a GREAT EVENT we will be awarding the following prizes.

Currently this is the only IWA ranked wave event scheduled for 2017. If this situation remains unchanged for 2017, then this event will decide the 2017 Irish Wave Title!

Judges

We are delighted to have secured a very high calibre of a judging panel for this event. Flying in especially from France is Francis Nogue. Francis judged the French Championship since 2009 and also local events like Wissant Wave Classic and the National Expression in Six Four. He was Head Judge in Bercy in 2016. Currently he is in charge of the adaptation of the judgement rules for wave riding for the French Federation. Francis also graduated from IFCA as freestyle judge. He is one of the most respected and experienced Judges in France.

Needing no introduction is the living ledged that is, Jamie Knox, the founder of Jamie Know water sports in Brandon Bay. Finally, Galway’s own and one of Ireland most respected Judge's, Maurice Owens. With such a strong line up of judges we are confident that we have a fantastic team in place for an amazing competition.

First time competitors are very welcome to this event. If you ever thought about competing but just haven’t taken that leap then this is the event for you. We will have lots of experienced competitors available to mentor first timers on the day of competition and available for any advice over the weekend.

Non Competitor

We would also like to encourage all those windsurfers who don’t want to compete to come along and enjoy a weekend of windsurfing. Come and get out on the water or cheer on those who are competing. There should be plenty of space on the beach for free sailing too. All are welcome

There is no better or fun way to improve your sailing then by competing. We can guarantee you that by signing up for Mayo Mayhem it will change how you sail. You will start to push yourself every time you get on the water and become a better windsurfer.

If you can water start, gybe (sometimes) and get the odd jump in, then you are well capable of signing up for this event.
